Once upon a time there was a little girl called Dorothée Chabas who always preferred pages with pictures in her children’s books. A fairy came by and cast a spell on her: the girl would get to live in a castle and become a children’s book author, only if she realized three of the fairy’s wishes. The first wish was that the girl had to help children with disabilities, so she became a child neurologist. The second was that the girl had to add beauty in the world, so she became a painter. The third was that the girl had to go on an epic journey, so she moved from France to California. Only after the girl realized the third wish was she granted her wish to move into a lemon-yellow castle in San Francisco and become a children’s book author and illustrator. There, that is a true story.
